The Municipality of Bantayan in Cebu disposed of 178 sacks of rice after the National Food Authority (NFA) declared them unfit for consumption. Each sack weighed 50 kilograms. The decision followed an inspection conducted by NFA officials.

The rice was stored in a local warehouse and had been intended for distribution to the public. NFA inspectors found the rice to be contaminated and unsuitable for sale. The municipality arranged for the sacks to be removed from the warehouse.

This incident highlights ongoing food safety concerns in the region. The NFA has been increasing its inspections in recent months. Local officials have expressed willingness to cooperate with the agency. The discarded rice will be handled in accordance with environmental regulations.
