A minimum wage increase of P42 took effect in Central Visayas on October 14, raising daily wages to P582 in Metro Cebu and P542 in other areas. The adjustment applies to private sector minimum wage earners.
The wage hike was criticized by a labor group in Cebu, which argued the increase remains inadequate to support workers’ families. The group called for further adjustments to ensure fair compensation. The new rates cover more than 300,000 minimum wage earners in the region. The minimum wage in Metro Cebu previously stood at P540, while other areas had lower rates. The change follows ongoing discussions about improving living standards for low-income workers.
