Authorities in Cebu have intensified security protocols ahead of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) defense meetings. The event, scheduled from Monday, October 26, to Friday, October 30, involves high-level discussions among defense ministers.

Lapu-Lapu City has declared a no-fly zone across its entire jurisdiction during the event. Restrictions apply to drones, kites, balloons, and other airborne objects. The city government cited the need for security as the meetings take place in the city.

The Asean Defense Ministers’ meetings are part of the 20th session of the organization’s defense dialogue. The event aims to address regional security challenges and strengthen cooperation among member states. Cebu’s role as a host city underscores its strategic importance in Asean diplomatic and military coordination.

This is the second time Cebu hosts Asean defense meetings. Previous gatherings have focused on counterterrorism, maritime security, and disaster response. The current event is expected to include similar topics, with an emphasis on modern security threats.

The heightened security measures reflect growing concerns over potential disruptions during high-profile international gatherings. Local authorities have deployed additional personnel to monitor compliance with the no-fly zone and ensure public safety.
