Bohol’s first public electric vehicle (EV) charging hub opened in Tagbilaran, marking a key step in the region’s push for sustainable transportation. The facility, located in the city center, offers multiple charging points designed to support both private and commercial EV users.

The hub is part of a broader initiative by the Bohol Provincial Government to promote clean energy solutions. Officials say the facility will help reduce reliance on fossil fuels and encourage more residents to switch to electric vehicles. Local authorities estimate that over 100 EVs are currently registered in the province, with plans to increase that number by 30% within the next two years.

This development follows a regional trend of increasing EV adoption in Central Visayas. In 2023, the region saw a 25% rise in EV registrations compared to the previous year. The new charging hub is expected to ease range anxiety for drivers and support the growth of EV infrastructure in the area.

The project was funded through a combination of government grants and private sector investments. Local businesses have also expressed interest in adopting EVs for their fleets, citing the new charging options as a key factor in their decision-making.

The move aligns with national goals to reduce carbon emissions and promote green technology. With the new hub, Bohol aims to position itself as a leader in sustainable mobility within the Visayas region.
