Authorities in the Philippines have detained 159 foreign nationals, including 128 Indonesians, in a major operation targeting an alleged parcel scam hub in Pasay City. The operation, conducted by the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, dismantled a network that had been operating for three months. The scam primarily targeted Vietnamese and Chinese citizens, deceiving them through fake parcel deliveries.
The arrest of a Chinese national and two Malaysians, who were allegedly running the international scam operation, marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation. The PNP confirmed that the suspects were using the parcel scam as a method to defraud foreign nationals, often through deceptive online transactions. The operation involved coordinated efforts to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the fraudulent activities.
This is not the first instance of such scams in the region. Previous operations have targeted similar schemes, often involving fake delivery services and financial fraud. The current bust highlights the increasing sophistication of these scams and the need for international cooperation to combat them. The PNP is now working to recover assets and further investigate the network's reach beyond the Philippines.
