More than 35,894 young athletes have registered for the Batang Pinoy National Championships, set to take place in Bacolod City from December 12 to 18. The event, organized by the Philippine Sports Commission, aims to identify and nurture talent across various sports disciplines. Registration was open to participants aged 12 to 18, with a focus on promoting youth engagement in sports.
The championships will feature over 100 events, including track and field, swimming, basketball, and martial arts. Officials noted that the high turnout reflects growing interest in youth sports and the event’s reputation as a key platform for aspiring athletes. The competition will be held at the Bacolod City Convention Center and the city’s sports complex.
This year’s event marks the third consecutive year the championships have been hosted in Bacolod, following previous editions in 2022 and 2023. The city has become a regular host due to its well-developed sports infrastructure and supportive local government. The championships are part of the national youth development program, which seeks to improve athletic performance and encourage healthy lifestyles among young people.
