Cebu City Hall employees will resume a five-day workweek starting next week. Mayor Nestor Archival had previously implemented a four-day work schedule, but has now decided to revert to the standard five-day format. The change affects all city hall staff and is expected to take effect on the following Monday.
The decision to return to the regular work schedule came after a review of operational needs and administrative efficiency. Mayor Archival stated that the four-day schedule had caused logistical challenges and reduced service delivery. The move is intended to improve coordination with other government agencies and ensure consistent public service.
This marks a reversal of a policy introduced earlier this year. The four-day workweek was initially introduced to reduce employee workload and improve work-life balance. However, it faced criticism from some officials and service providers who argued that it disrupted routine operations. The mayor’s office has not provided further details on how the transition will be managed or whether any adjustments will be made to accommodate the change.
