The Department of Trade and Industry in Central Visayas (DTI 7) has endorsed a proposed ordinance requiring businesses in Cebu City to install collection bins. The measure aims to enhance waste management practices and promote environmental cleanliness.
The ordinance, currently under review, would mandate commercial establishments to provide designated bins for recyclables, organic waste, and non-recyclables. This follows growing concerns over improper waste disposal in the city. DTI 7 officials emphasized the need for structured waste management to align with national environmental goals.
Cebu City has faced increasing pressure to improve its waste management systems due to rapid urbanization and rising waste volumes. Local authorities have previously launched awareness campaigns but have not yet implemented strict enforcement. The new ordinance is seen as a step toward more systematic waste handling.
