The Philippine Statistics Authority reported that inflation accelerated in the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, and Mandaue in September 2026. The rate in these urban centers increased to 6.2% year-on-year, up from 5.8% in August 2026. In contrast, Cebu Province as a whole saw a slight slowdown, with inflation at 5.1%, down from 5.5% in the previous month.
The data highlights continued price pressures in major urban areas, driven by rising food and energy costs. The national inflation rate for September 2026 stood at 5.3%, slightly higher than the 5.1% recorded in August. The central bank has warned of potential further increases, citing ongoing supply chain disruptions and global economic uncertainty.
This marks the third consecutive month of rising inflation in Cebu’s urban regions. The trend reflects broader economic challenges, including currency depreciation and higher import costs. Local businesses have reported increased operational expenses, while consumers face reduced purchasing power. The situation underscores the need for targeted economic policies to stabilize prices and support household budgets.
